The day for the community needs project

Hello everyone in the light of writing the project proposal, I selected Friday November 12th as the day, the team proposal really needed input after the draft was written, I heard no communication regarding the day so I just picked one.. I feel if this day needs to be changed, the person who changes it needs to communicate it to the rest of the group ASAP!!! The team needs to decide and stick with the plan folks so we can progress smoothly and hit our team deadlines.... :)

More Proposal

I think both of you did a great job. I am not sure what to add so I will just ramble some!

Loaves and Fishes is 40 years old. The goal of Loaves and Fishes according to their Website is;

"The mission of Loaves & Fishes is to enrich the lives of seniors and assist them in maintaining independence by making nutritious food, social contacts, and other resources accessible. To the extent possible we will also serve disabled and institutionalized individuals."

Paragraph 2

Team Clay is excited to assist Loaves and Fishes, which also operates Meals on Wheels, with their goal while learning how the program works, what their needs are and how we may be able to help even after this class is long over. Part of this project will be researching and learning a about the needs and struggles for the elderly in our community. Team Clay is also interested in the organization itself and what needs and struggles it has. While working with Loaves and Fishes, it may be possible to find out about people that need help but are not getting the help they need.

Paragraph 3

The sources of our research will include the Cannell Library data base which will allow us to tap into peridocals, web sites and books that will help us understand the plight people over the age of 60. The Firstenburg Center has other activities besides just providing meals and it may be possible for our group to interact with the people who come to eat as socialization is part of the goal for Loaves and Fishes.

I hope this helps. Everyone's looked great so maybe Lisa can give us a good blend! Lisa could you email us when you get it finished? I'm excited to see it! PS. Did you see the President?

See you guys tomorrow!
Charles

Ok, so finally got a hold of Firstenburg about Vetrens day...

So they are closed unfortunately!

Proposal

Alex, you did a great job!

Here are my sentences--

Question 1)
The nature of our project is to focus on providing a nutricious meal for senior citizens no matter the income level. We prepare the food (cutting, slicing etc.) then serve the prepaired meals to senior citizens.

Question 2)
As a group we will be preparing food and working in the kitchen. We will then box the prepared food to be be delivered to home bound seniors via meals on wheels. We also get to serve and interact with the seniors at a local community center. We plan on accomplishing our volunteering by Nov. 11 and we will achieve all four hours in that day.

Hope this helps!

Loaves and fishes Firstenburg

Hey guys,

I talked to Andre at the Firstenburg center today and he said that volunteer times would be 9-1 for them. We we would actually beable to serve the food here as well as prep, similar to what we would do at the Battleground location. So we have two choices Battleground or Vancouver. Just wanted to update everyone!

Hey Guys!

Unfortunately I was sick this whole weekend, Friday included so today has been my day to contact Loaves and Fishes. There are different centers that are around the Vancouver area and depending on their need and what works with everyone's schedules it sounds like fun.

Some info I gathered by talking to the manager at the Battleground location is that we would basically prep any fruit or salad ( they have a cook who does the warm food) and then we serve it up to the senior citizens, followed by light clean up--wiping down tables, throwing any trash left on the tables away.

I inquired if the seniors are all homeless--they aren't always. She stated that anyone can eat there no matter what their income bracket, they only have to be over 60. I'm still waiting to hear back from the Vancouver location, so I will let you all know what he says when I do!
