ReplyDeleteFinding the Right Fit.
ReplyDeleteLisa has let us know that she has a physical limitations so we need to keep that in mind.
Are there community issues that anyone is concerned about?
Y- Yvonne interested in serving food to the homeless. Yvonne would like direct service and actually work with the people that she is helping.
A- Alex likes Yvonne's ideas about direct service and has mentioned schools or a assisted living environments.
C- Charles likes the idea of direct service as well.
There is some concern in the group about the amount of people volunteering to serve food. Possibly delivering food to shut ins, which would include Meals on Wheels.
Alex is going to contact Volunteer Connections with our parameters for suggestions.
Our parameters at this point is a project that, 4 people can do together in direct service that does not include physical labor.
Direct service would involve background checks.
Challenges could include new work schedules and illness.
Prior to Tuesday, Alex will contact Volunteer connections, Yvonne will attempt Loaves and Fishes and Charles will contact Meals and Wheels.
There are 4 food banks in the close area that needs help sorting cloths, sorting foods and general assistance at the food banks. Salvation Army, St. Vincet De Paul, FISH (2 locations). It is direct service with the community as well as the holidays are on their way (Thanksgiving and Christmas) where they need food baskets built and delivered. I voulenteered last year at the St. Catholic Church building Thanksgiving baskets and delivery. These are my thoughts towards the community learning project.
ReplyDeleteI think one thing that was talked about and agreed on in class is that we would like to have some time working directly with those who benefit from the service. Delivering baskets might work with that if we could make sure that is part of it. Or do we want to serve a meal at a shelter and then do another type of direct service helping build baskets or sort? What do you guys think?
ReplyDeleteWhat is required?... One or two community services? I really only have time in my schedule for that which is required for the class anyone know how many are required? I know of a food bank on east 4th plain that serves meals and there is the Rosemeare Church on Grand that serves friday meals as well .. Let me know ..
